Founders
Liz Schack

Liz co-founded NoMa Run Club in November of 2021, a few months after moving to NoMa and about a year after she started running. She didn’t grow up doing organized sports, but she did love hiking with the Girl Scouts, so it’s no surprise that her favorite place to run is on trails. Liz is passionate about countering the loneliness endemic to our individualist, capitalist society, and she’s also just an extrovert, so when you see her at a run, introduce yourself! She lives in the neighborhood with August and their two cats, Beatrice and Elliott.
August Benzow

August Benzow has been running for over a decade after getting his start racing in Chicago. After moving to the NoMa neighborhood in 2021, the urge to connect to the running community led him to co-found the NoMa Run Club. He ran his first marathon in 2022 in Richmond, VA, and has done several since then. But his love for the outdoors extends beyond the pavement, as he enjoys the challenge and scenery of trail races and the freedom of long cycling adventures. For him, the best part about run club is enjoying a beer with friends afterwards.
Leadership Team
Andrew MacDonald

Andrew began his running journey over 20 years ago when he joined his high school’s cross country team. In 2011, he made his marathon debut at the Marine Corps Marathon, and in recent years, he’s enjoyed racing at a variety of distances. Since joining NoMa Run Club, his love and dedication for the sport has grown even more. At this point in his career, his primary motivation is the free slice of pizza at the end of the Monday runs.
Anthony Singer

Anthony joined NoMa Run Club in September 2022 after a friend had suggested that it’d be a great way for a new DC resident to meet cool folks — and the friend was right. Through NoMa Run Club, Anthony has discovered both a serious appreciation for running and a wonderful community with which to share it. Anthony leads the Saturday morning run (and also the occasional donut run).
Brendan Haley

Brendan has been running off and on since getting out of college as a recovering competitive swimmer and started getting serious with running after joining NoMa Run Club in May 2022. Since joining he’s finished two marathons, numerous half marathons and lots of post run beers, pizzas and donuts.
Diego Torres

Diego joined NoMa Run Club in February 2022, after running on and off since middle school. Since joining NRC his love for the sport and community has remained consistent. He enjoys spending time with all members at Andy’s on Monday nights and starting his Saturday mornings with the club!
Jake Kenneally

Jake started running recreationally in college and has been a part of 3 run clubs since then: Paavo’s Apostles at Champion Brewery in Charlottesville, VA, the Urban Athletic Club at The LINE Hotel in Adams Morgan, and now the NoMa Run Club! NRC is his favorite by far, and he’s glad to have found so many friendly accountabili-buddies in the club to keep his spirits high and pace faster. Be sure to ask him about his love for the show Survivor!
Surya Murty

Surya joined NoMa Run Club in March 2022 as a way to make friends in a new city. He has not only found an awesome community but is hooked to the sport, completing a marathon, half-marathon, and 10 miler in the past two years. He loves the great conversations on Saturday mornings and the camaraderie shared during local races (especially the Rock n Roll half marathon)!
Taylor Maggiacomo

Taylor is our club designer, creating our logo, T-shirts, and a run club collaboration beer label with Lost Gen. She started to run competitively over 15 years ago on her high school and D3 college cross country and track teams, where she gained a gnarly scar on her shin she’s strangely proud of from falling in the 3k steeplechase (still got that PR!). After some much needed time off from running after college graduation, NoMa Run Club has helped her fall back in love with the sport.
Tucker Broadbooks

Before 2020, the longest Tucker had ever run was the mile in high school gym class. Looking for a way to get outside and meet new people during the pandemic, he began running and got hooked. He joined NRC after moving to Washington in April 2022 and got hooked on the great community (and free pizza). Since then, he has completed several 10K and half marathon races and his first marathon in 2023.
